Term 3 Learning
Oak Class have been reading and writing about a variety of texts in English. They have rope-walked in New York with The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, explored the refugee experience in Boy 87, and are now creating their own fantastical creatures inspired by The Land of Neverbelieve.
In Maths, they have been improving arithmetic speed and applying skills to problem-solving, covering ratio, probability, and percentages (Y6); multiplication and division (Y5); and addition and subtraction (Y4).
In History, they have explored the Viking invasions, the Anglo-Saxons, and King Alfred the Great. They performed a song about their conflicts and created Viking shields for display.
Science lessons have focused on forces, with experiments on gravity, friction, and air resistance. In Computing, they have been learning about computing systems and how they function.
In R.E. they have studied God as both holy and loving, comparing Old and New Testament texts and reflecting on qualities we admire in others.
This term, our Year 4, 5, and 6 children delivered a fantastic worship, showcasing their learning and reflecting on courage. They took us on a journey through The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, Viking explorations, science investigations, and computing systems.
The assembly ended with a powerful message from Matthew 5:14-16: “Let your light shine before others.” A huge well done to all the children for speaking with confidence and sharing such an inspiring message!
Term 2 Learning
In RE, Oak have been focusing on the question, ‘What is the best way for a Hindu to show commitment to God?’ During these lessons, the children explored different Hindu practices which allows them to connect to God and show their commitment; Puja (worship), Dharma, participating in Pilgrimages and the significance of The River Ganges. They have found this topic quite interesting!
Science has been all about Earth and Space. A topic the children have really enjoyed learning about and found particularly interesting!
Our Art lessons have continued from term 1. The children have been working up to producing an art collage linked to the jungle and inspired by Henri Rousseau. They have very enjoyed their art lessons!
‘Rainforests’ has been our geographical topic. This term, we have zoomed into Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest, learning about the countries in Brazil, the different layers within a rainforest and the importance of The Amazon Rainforest. Once we delved into the lesson specifically about the Amazon, the children were mostly wowed by the different creatures found in there!
